A kettle with a long, curved spout that gives you a slow, controlled stream for precise pour-over brewing.

A gooseneck kettle is a kettle whose spout narrows into a long, curved neck, so water leaves in a thin, steady stream you can aim exactly where you want. That control is the whole point: in pour-over brewing, where the water goes and how fast it lands shapes the extraction.

Why it matters: a wide, gushing spout dumps water unevenly, blasting some grounds while skipping others. That creates excess agitation and uneven contact, which usually shows up as muddled, harsh, or thin coffee. A gooseneck lets you wet the bed gently, control the bloom, and keep your pour rate consistent.

Many gooseneck kettles are electric with a built-in thermometer or set temperature, which pairs well with paying attention to brew temperature. They are most useful for V60, Chemex, and Kalita brewing. For French press or immersion methods, the precision matters far less, so any kettle works.
