Kalita Wave

A flat-bottom pour-over with three small drainage holes, prized for forgiving, even extraction.
Kalita Wave is a flat-bottom pour-over dripper from the Japanese brand Kalita, named for its wavy, fluted filter. Instead of a single large cone opening, it drains through three small holes in a flat base, and the ridged filter keeps the paper from sealing against the walls.
Why it matters: the flat bed and small holes make the Wave more forgiving than a cone like the V60. The grounds sit in an even layer rather than a deep point, and the restricted drainage slows and steadies the drawdown, so the brew time depends less on a perfect pour. That tolerance is why it is a favorite for beginners and for cafes that need consistency across many baristas.
How it shows up: a percolation method that yields a clean cup with a touch more body and a rounder, more even-feeling extraction than a fast cone. The flat bottom rewards gentle, central pouring over aggressive swirling. Standard sizes are the 155 (1 to 2 cups) and 185 (2 to 4 cups). It is one of the easiest pour-overs to get a good result from.
